PASTORAL CARE

Pastoral care is a vital part of the ministry at First United Church.  Their tasks are carried out by the minister and staff under the oversight and assistance of the session.  The ministry of caring and concern for all entails Pastoral Visitation to hospitals, nursing homes, personal home visitation.  Pastor Counselling for individuals and families is also available upon request.  Our Ministerial Staff is trained in Clinical Pastoral Education,  and participants in our pastoral services are assured of professional interactions with respect and confidentiality.

Memorial and Funeral Services are conducted both in our church at and in funeral homes around the city.  Service planning can be done directly with the Minister at First United Church or through the funeral home of your choice.

SUGGESTED SCRIPTURE READINGS

Scripture readings should deal with God’s comfort, and with hope, new life and resurrection.  The normal practice is to read one Hebrew Scripture, such as a Psalm or Scripture Lesson, one Epistle (Letters of Paul), and a Gospel.  It is appropriate to have family members or close friends read sacred Scriptures in such services, however, you need to arrange this by speaking to the Funeral Director.
